Too much to read?

Do you ever feel like your “to read” book stack is out of control — that you will never get caught up on your reading?

Sometimes the problem is not just a question about the amount of time needed to read, but knowing what to read.  That’s where a group like Christian Book Summaries is helpful.  At least a couple times per month, they publish an 8-page summary of a significant Christian book. (Note that these are not critiques or reviews of books — they are summaries; so while not offering judgment of the book, you will get a flavor of the author’s purpose and style.)

I wouldn’t recommend every book that they summarize, but then again, that’s the beauty of their service; you can test drive the book before buying it.  They will even notify you by email when they have posted a new summary.  And it’s all free.

What triggered this post was the email this morning announcing the arrival of the summary of The Call to Joy and Pain: Embracing Suffering in Your Ministry
by Ajith Fernando — a book that has been sitting in my “I’ve got to read this soon” stack for at least six months!  I’m going to try to get to the summary in the next week or two.

Some of the other recent authors they have summarized are:  Dante, Mark Dever, John Piper (a couple different books), Norm Geisler, Blaise Pascal, William Wilberforce, Jerry Bridges, and John Bunyan.  From that list, you will notice that they have a good mix of both new and old books.  A fairly complete list of their book summaries is also available here.
