Jonah and his Bible

A note that I should have included in my comments about “Reading Jonah:” he was a man of the Scriptures.  In his prayer from the belly of the fish, Jonah either quotes or alludes to 11 different Psalms:

• 2:2 — Ps. 18:4-6; 30:3; 120:1-3
• 2:3 — Ps. 42:7
• 2:4 — 5:7; 31:22
• 2:5 — 69:1-2, 15
• 2:6 — 18:16; 30:3
• 2:7 — 18:6; 42:4; 142:3
• 2:8 — 31:6
• 2:9 — 50:14, 23; 116:17

Let this be an encouragement to saturate our prayers in the solidity of the Scriptures.
