Read 10 chapters of the Bible every day?

There are many different kinds of Bible reading plans — Old Testament only, New Testament only, a-chapter-a-day, four-chapters-a-day, the whole Bible in a year, chronological readings.

But a couple of months ago I came across another unique plan — 10 chapters a day!  The design of the plan by English Professor Grant Horner is to read one chapter of the Bible from 10 different lists of Biblical genres each day:  Gospels, Pentateuch, Epistles (2 sets of books), Poetry, Psalms, Proverbs, OT History, Prophets, and Acts.  The result is that “Every year you’ll read through all the Gospels four times, the Pentateuch twice, Paul’s letters 4-5 times each, the OT wisdom literature six times, all the Psalms at least twice, all the Proverbs as well as Acts a dozen times, and all the way through the OT History and Prophetic books about 1 1⁄2 times. Since the interweaving is constantly changing, you will experience the Bible commenting on itself in constantly changing ways — the Reformer’s principle of ‘scriptura interpretans scripturam‘ — ‘scripture interpreting scripture’ IN ACTION!”

Professor Horner reminds the reader that:

This is not merely a speed-reading program, nor is it a ‘study’ system. Read the description provided here to see how it works. DO NOT be intimidated! I was a college dropout, ex-heavy-druggie when I started it. If I can do it — so can you!…

This is “gross anatomy” — looking at the whole body; you’re not closely studying organs or systems or tissues or cells — it is not microbiology. BUT — microbiology and the study or organs makes more sense when you know what the whole structure of the human body is like, and how all the parts, large and small, relate in perfect interdependence.

I have not yet attempted this Bible reading plan, but anticipate attempting it next year (I want to finish this year’s plan again).  Among others, Lance Quinn gave this a strong affirmation during the counseling conference a couple of weeks ago, and Tim Challies has also advocated the system.
