This is a danger into which many ministries fall. Rather than standing in the center of the message, Jesus is left standing in the shadows. What must be recovered is the preaching of the person and work of Jesus Christ — preaching Christ as the suffering Savior and the full and sovereign Lord.
We preach all of the doctrines of the Bible, but it is all foundational, and on this foundations stands a towering mountain, and it is Golgotha and the cross and Christ. We preached Christ lifted up on the judgment and carrying our iniquities far away. This is what must be the very heartbeat of the church of Jesus Christ. We must be known for preaching Christ and Him crucified.
