I think it was 30 or more years ago that I first heard a report that Noah’s ark was found on Mt. Ararat. Since then other discoveries have been claimed, including one a couple of weeks ago as reported by numerous news sources including FOX News and National Geographic.
The question is whether or not it is a genuine find — and Probe Ministries has an excellent discussion about the importance of authenticating such a find and how to authenticate it. They also affirm the importance of maintaining integrity in this quest.
Additionally, it is important to remember that while a find like this may be encouraging to our faith, we are not dependent upon these discoveries for our faith. For what we believe is founded on the reliability of the Scriptures, which also remind us that we walk by faith, not by sight. The truth of creation, the flood, the Abrahamic covenant, the story of Job and Jonah (to name a few often attacked Biblical events), and most of all the cross and Christ’s resurrection are affirmed by Scripture and that is enough.
