Yesterday morning in our worship service, we introduced Thomas Watson’s exposition of Romans 8:28 — All Things for Good — as our book of the month (review forthcoming). The truth of God’s sovereignty in all things is a precious comfort and a source of stability to the believer. And Watson is hardly the only writer and pastor to understand this truth.
John Newton, writing to a friend, also contemplates Romans 8:28 —
He has a sovereign right to do with us as He pleases; and if we consider what we are, surely we shall confess we have no reason to complain; and to those who seek Him, His sovereignty is exercised in a way of grace. All shall work together for good; everything is needful that He sends; nothing can be needful that He withholds.
