We wrestle often with the question of “What is the meaning of life?” As Packer has noted, it is not such a difficult question:
We also need to recover a true understanding of human life, a sense of the greatness of the soul. We need to recover the awareness that God is more important than we are, that the future life is more important than this one, that happiness is the promise for heaven, that holiness is the priority here in this world, and that nothing in this world is perfect or complete.
How’s that for a worldview? God is the greatest being in the universe; we live for heavenly joys and rewards, not for fleeting earthly desires; that holiness is better than happiness (or anything else) and that sanctification on earth is always progressive.
