Thirteen Core Values for Equipping the Saints
Selected Scriptures
November 5, 2023
When we train counselors and disciplers, we frequently talk about our motives — why do we do what we do? We understand that there is a connection between what is inside us and what we do — our inner man determines what we do in our outer man. So we say, “we do what we do because we want what we want; and we want what we want because we believe what we believe.”
All our actions are driven by desires, and those desires are driven by a belief system — what we think about God and the world. But that is not only true of individuals. It is also true of churches. Every church functions out of a set of desires and those desires are also informed by a belief system.
Over the next few weeks, we want to think with you about our theme for this year, “Equipping the Saints.” And this morning I want to unpack for you our desires and beliefs as we think about church. “What does GBC do in caring for people?” is a question for another day. The question for today is, “What does GBC believe about God and ministry and what does GBC want in ministry?” We have thirteen answers to that question —
- We Believe in the Supremacy of God Above All Things
- We Believe in the Preeminence of Christ
- We Believe in the Transforming Work of the Holy Spirit
- We Believe in the Sufficiency of Scripture
- We Believe in Grace
- We Believe in the Church
- We Believe in the Priority of a Personal Walk (Life) with God
- We Believe in Discipleship
- We Believe in Evangelism
- We Believe in the Power and Priority of Forgiveness and Reconciliation
- We Believe in Marriage and Family
- We Believe in the Value of Problems
