Evangelism tips

Say the word “evangelism” and you are sure to instantly stir up guilt and apprehension in the lives of many Christians.  We are convinced that we are to do it, but most of us struggle with how to do it.  Someone who is writing and speaking well on this topic is Jesse Johnson, who posted this yesterday:

…while all Christians are called to be active in evangelism, not all Christians are equally gifted at this particular calling. Acts 21:8 and Ephesians 4:11 both imply that some have the gift of evangelism, and some do not. So God in his wisdom has called all Christians to evangelize, and then only specifically gifted some in that area.

The conclusion then is that God is challenging most Christians to do something at which they are not particularly gifted. It is a stretch, uncomfortable, and time consuming. Evangelism brings failure and humiliation. It is proclaiming a crazy and foolish message that is intolerant and exclusive. Yet this is what God would have us do.

Perhaps you are one of the many who does not find evangelism easy or natural. Here are some steps to take to help your evangelism be more effective:

  • Live a Transformed Life…
  • Pray Relentlessly…
  • Start the Conversation…
  • Explain the Gospel…
  • Don’t be discouraged
