Some helpful articles from the last week:
- Clint Archer writes about “Celebrating Singleness” over at Cripplegate. His posts coincide nicely with what I wrote a couple of weeks ago on the same topic (“Four reasons for the unmarried to consider singleness”).
- Does church history confuse and bore you? Nathan Busenitz provides some insight and a helpful summary about the gospel in church history — “The Gospel according to the Church Fathers.”
- Justin Taylor summarizes a discussion by Professor Robert Miller about “Hotel Pornography and the Market of Morality.” Miller uses this situation to talk about the relationship between democracy and capitalism. It is also worth noting that the only lasting corrective to this situation is the gospel, as the following quote reveals. What needs to be changed are the desires of sinners, and only the gospel is adequate to do that:
The legal institutions of a democratic and capitalist society are not designed to give people what is good and prevent them from getting what is bad; they are designed to give people what they want and not give them what they don’t want.
- “Fighting Sin with Worship,” a partial transcript from a sermon by Tim Keller.
- Monergism has a number of useful ebooks on sale.
- And this one is just fun — an answer to the question, “What would happen if you tried to hit a baseball pitched at 90% the speed of light?“
