11 reasons to read Revelation

RevelationThe book of Revelation, along with some of the OT prophetic books is among the most daunting books for believers to read.  While the overall message of Revelation is clear (judgment is coming!), yet the meaning of the particulars in the book is sometimes more difficult to discern.

So we are tempted to skip reading Revelation.

Nevertheless, in his book Gateways to God, Pete Lowman offers 11 reasons why we should read the book of Revelation:

  • Because of what it teaches us about Jesus (ch. 1)
  • Because of what it teaches us about local churches (chs. 2-3)
  • Because of what it teaches us about heaven (chs. 4-5)
  • Because of what it teaches us about worship (chs. 4-5)
  • Because of what it tells us about suffering (chs. 5-6)
  • Because of what it tells us about judgment (chs. 7-11)
  • Because of what it tells us about spiritual warfare (ch. 12)
  • Because of what it may teach us about future persecution (ch. 13)
  • Because of what it teaches us about ‘civilized’ religious and economic structures and systems (chs. 17:1 – 19:5)
  • Because of what it teaches us about the second coming and final judgment (chs. 19:6 – 20:15)
  • Because of what it tells us about the Church and about eternity (chs. 21-22)
