Sunday LeftoversThe New Testament speaks in many ways about our identification with Christ — our unity with Him.  Considering only the words “with Christ” and “with Him,” Constantine Campbell notes the many ways the Epistles way we are unified with Christ (other words used are ones like, “in Christ,” “in Him,” “placed into Christ,” “abide in Him” and “have ___ through Him”):

  • Believers suffer with him (Rom 8:17)
  • Believers are crucified with him (Rom 6:6)
  • Believers are nailed to the cross with Christ (Gal 2:19)
  • Believers are united with him in his death (Rom 6:5)
  • Believers are fellow members of the same body (Eph 3:6)
  • Believers are built together in him (Eph 2:22)
  • Believers die with Christ (2 Tim 2:11)
  • Believers are buried with him (Rom 6:4; Col 2:12).
  • God brings believers to life with Christ (Eph 2:5; Col 2:13), who are raised up with him (Eph 2:6; Col 2:12; 3:1) and live together with him (Rom 6:8; 2 Tim 2:11)
  • Believers become like Christ (Phil 3:10), are conformed to him (Rom 8:29; Phil 3:21), are joint-heirs with him (Rom 8:17; Eph 3:6)
  • Believers are joint-partakers of the promise (Eph 3:6)
  • Believers are seated together with Christ (Eph 2:6) so that they may reign with him (2 Tim 2:12) and be glorified with him (Rom 8:17).
