“Essential Actions After the Election” Pt. 1
2 Timothy 3
October 30, 2016
I have done more than one fix-it project at my home where just past the point of no return something has happened that made me think, “Now what am I going to do???” Most of those happened with the water turned off to the house and a pipe that was cut. If we wanted to cook or get clean again, it had to get fixed and I wasn’t sure what to do.
Some of us are thinking that way about the election in nine days. Now that these candidates have been offered, and one of them will be President, what will we do? I suspect there are a few anxious believers among us as we think about the future of this country and the church at large.
With all the debate about the various concerns about policies, morality, and character in this election it’s easy to forget that as long as the Lord tarries from His return, there will be work to do on November 9. Whatever happens on November 8, the focus of our ministry and service to each other and in this culture won’t have changed. The calling the church was given by Christ 2000 years ago hasn’t changed. Our duties are still the same. So over the next two Sundays, we will be reminded of some of those realities from Paul’s final letter, his message to Timothy, the pastor of the Ephesian church.
When living in difficult days, guard your thoughts to prepare for ministry.
Here are three priorities for your thought life and attitude as you contemplate what you will do —
- Be Aware (vv. 1-9)
- Be Enduring (vv. 10-13)
- Be Convinced (vv. 14-17)
