  • The timeline for the transition between John Piper and Jason Meyer as pastor at Bethlehem Baptist Church has changed again.  Read the plan and rationale from John’s pen.
  • Addressing the same theme that I did in the post, “Satan and sin — two defeated foes,” Mike Riccardi writes about “Freed from Sin by Sovereign Joy,” with an illustration from Augustine’s life.
  • Have you ever been in a conversation where your biblical views labeled as “intolerant, bigoted, narrow-minded, and judgmental?” Then, Greg Koukl suggests, turn the tables by “Asking for Tolerance.”
  • What John Newton said about Christians, patriotism, and politics:

My dear sir, my prayer to God for you is—that He may induce you to employ the talents He has given you, in pointing out sin as the great cause and source of every existing evil; and to engage those who love and fear Him, (instead of wasting time in political speculations, for which very few of them are competent,) to sigh and cry for our abounding abominations, and to stand in the breach, by prayer, that God’s wrath may yet be averted, and our national mercies prolonged! This, I think, is true patriotism—the best way in which people in private life may serve their country.

Few things are more hypocritical than showing up to a worship gathering of the Friend of Sinners and bellyaching that other sinners showed up too.

  • Dan Phillips reveals some of his axioms for life.  My favorite is his first one:  “If you ever weren’t God, you never will be.”
  • Stephen Altrogge asks pastors to quit picking on video games.  It’s an argument worth heeding.
